Potassium aluminum sulfate dodecahydrate is an inorganic substance, also known as alum, with a chemical formula of KAl(SO4)2·12H2O. It is a complex salt of potassium sulfate and aluminum sulfate containing water of crystallization [1]. It is soluble in water but insoluble in ethanol. Traditional Chinese medicine believes that alum is sour and astringent in nature, cold, and has antibacterial and astringent effects. It can also be used to prepare aluminum salts, baking powder, paint, tanning agents, clarifiers, mordants, papermaking, waterproofing agents, etc. It was once commonly used to purify water in life.
